RESIDENCY FACTS

Since 1993, Escape to Create's multi-disciplinary residency offers artists the gift of time and space from a community engaged in furthering artistic expression. Housed in private cottages located throughout the picturesque walking community of Seaside, FL, artists enjoy uninterrupted time fully immersed in their individual projects balanced with opportunities for cross-disciplinary dialogue in an intimate group setting.

Four-week residencies are offered to professional artists working in the literary and musical arts, scholarship, and the visual and interdisciplinary arts.

Dates and application deadline for the January and February 2013 Residencies will be posted in March 2013.

Applications include cover letter; resume or curriculum vitae; proposals for residency project, community service, and optional educational outreach; work samples; two professional letters of reference; a $35 processing fee for electronic applications and $50 for mailed applications.

Applications are reviewed by a panel of distinguished Escape to Create alumni representing each discipline. Residencies are awarded by a selection committee based on the strength and promise of work in the fields of literature, music, theatre, visual arts, architecture, scholarship, and interdisciplinary arts.

Artists live and work in private cottages that are generously donated in support of their creative endeavors and work proposals must be adaptable to this unique environment. The committee provides tarps, worktables, electronic keyboards and other essentials required to secure a comfortable and productive workspace.

Travel costs are the responsibility of the artist

Artists receive a $100 weekly stipend and are provided a weekly group dinner in a home environment. Bicycles are also furnished.

Artists are required to contribute community service such as a reading, a performance, a lecture, exhibit or workshop, etc. and are strongly encouraged to consider a school visitation or teaching session.

Visitors are allowed for one weekend only with prior written approval.
